Costa Rica Harvest Update

Costa Rica’s 2017/18 harvest has begun!

This year, the higher-than-normal rainfall in coffee-producing areas from May through to June has been good news, with no damage to the crop. It has impacted timing though, with the harvest expected to start a few weeks earlier than last year (not necessarily a bad thing -just different).

The latest estimates around production quantity suggest there’ll be a 15% increase compared to last year.

Although production is higher, this has not yet been resulted in a drop in offered price. It’s still early in the season, so exporters will not be counting their money until the coffee is in the shed. There’s still potential for last minute disruptions to harvest, as we are still in the hurricane season.
